A. NDUS Diversity Council Resolution

Schnell asked Boswell to report on the NDUS Diversity Council activity related to the
UND "Fighting Sioux" athletic name and logo. Boswell reported that on May 17 a group
of UND students requested that the NDUS Diversity Council draft a resolution asking
the State Board of Higher Education to reconsider its support for the "Fighting Sioux"
name and logo. The resolution eventually drafted for consideration by the Council at
its Oct. 18 meeting also indicates that a long list of national, regional, and area
groups are opposed to the name and logo. Since the resolution was brought back to
individual campuses with the University System, reactions have been mixed.
Therefore, the resolution will be reconsidered by the NDUS Diversity Council at a
special meeting on Nov. 15.

VI. Next Meeting - Friday, December 6, at 9am in Meinecke Board Room.
