Diversity Council ::: Meeting Minutes ::: December 6, 2002
Present: Anderson, Boswell, Gleye, Holbrook, Kitch, Kostecki, Lundstrom, Malnourie, Okigbo, Peterson, Speiring, Stack, Thoennes, White, and Wigtil
I. Announcements
A. NCORE Annual Conference scheduled for May 27-31, 2003 in San Francisco.
B. Centennial Endowment Fund proposal to acquire diversity resources for the Library
and Equal Opportunity - let Sandy know if there are resources
that we should acquire.
C. Tapestry Induction Ceremony scheduled for Friday, December 13 at 12noon in
Memorial Union Alumni Lounge. Those to be inducted are students: Brandon
Richardson, John Nyagaka, and Shaun McDonough and staff:
Laura Oster-Aaland and Jennifer Krueger.
II. Admissions Publications -
Kitch Kitch distributed copies of new publications to be used by the Admissions Office
for recruitment. Recent publications have featured greater diversity; council members
are encouraged to offer ideas to incorporate more diversity in future publications.
III. Update on Web Page - Holbrook
A. Holbrook and Stack will meet with Web page designer to check on progress
B. A screen saver will be designed to help promote the
Diversity Council's Web address
C. Report from subcommittee to publicize Web page - Anderson
i. Committee will work with Publication Services to design and print 20,000
bookmarks to be distributed. Bookmarks will feature the slogan "It's About
People" with the Diversity Council's URL and logo. Distribution ideas:
at Varsity Mart with textbook sales, to all faculty/staff,
in the residence halls, etc.
ii. Council members are asked to think about questions specifically related to
diversity. These will be featured on the main Diversity Council web page to
draw people into the site before getting the answer. A subgroup was formed
to formulate these questions (Thoennes, Boswell, and Kitch).
IV. Update on Climate Assessment - Holbrook
A. Council members were given draft copies of the survey form to be used.
Please review before the next meeting.
B. Council members were asked to think about how we can encourage participation in
the survey. One suggestions was to offer students a free credit. Please come to next
meeting with other ideas.
V. Recruitment Brochure Subcommittee Update - no report
VI. Meeting day and time for next semester
A. First Friday of the month at 8 a.m.
B. Next Meeting: Friday, January 10 at 8 a.m. (due to break schedule)
