Diversity Council ::: Meeting Minutes ::: December 16, 2005

Present: Bastow-Shoop, Berry, Burnett, Carter, Costin, Davis-Wallette, Holbrook, Johnson-Messelt, Peterson, Schnell, Stack, Taylor, Thoennes, Troop-Gordon, Ussatis

Announcements

o Introduction of new Council members – Malika Carter and D. C. Coston
o Reminder TOCAR training: Level I, Wednesday, March 8 at NDSU and
Level II (joint with Concordia and MSU-M), April 20-22
It is an expectation that council members will attend at least Level I training.
Send suggestions of names to Kristina (kristinaann.peterson@ndsu.edu)

Web conference: Feb. 21, 2006 – Designing Blended Courses for Ethnically Diverse Audiences, Noon – 1:30 p.m. (CST), sponsored by the Provost’s Office and Diversity Council
o Additional NDSU student demographics – Fall 2005 (handout)
o Sandy distributed additional requested information

• Funding guidelines for Diversity Council financial support of events and programs:
o Report from subcommittee (Malika, Wendy, Kara, Kristina)
Subcommittee handed out proposal format and guidelines for proposals.
Questions for the full council:
Where will proposals be submitted?
Diversity Council e-mail address
Should there be a dollar amount range for funding?
$500 limit?
One proposal submission per organization per year
It was decided that a subcommittee would review proposals. If
there would need to be more input, proposals could
be circulated via the list serve.
Speaker resume requested for criterion.
Discussed equitable distribution of funds between semesters.

o Recruitment and Retention – Sandy Holbrook
o Learning and Pedagogy – Ann Burnett
o Institutional Commitment – Craig Schnell
o What activities/efforts already underway to address these action steps?
o What specific actions are needed to initiate each action and/or continue current efforts? Who will initiate? By?
o What obstacles are there that need to be addressed in order to accomplish this action step?

• Meeting dates for Spring semester – last Friday of each month at 11:30a.m.

We will start at 11:30am instead of noon and finish before 1:00pm.

Please notify Linda Gill (Linda.gill@ndsu.edu or 1-8124) no later than Wednesday morning before the meeting date if you cannot attend at meeting so that she can adjust the lunch count.
