Edwin Anderson, a longtime faculty member and former chair of the electrical engineering department, died May 24, in Dickinson, N.D. He was 84.
Anderson taught at the university from 1949-82, serving as department chair from 1958-78. He also briefly chaired the physics department and served as acting dean of engineering in 1975.
He was an important force in NDSU's entry into computers. He helped secure the first digital computer on the campus in 1960.
Anderson earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering at the University Denver, and did his doctoral work at Purdue University. His many honors included the National Science Foundation Science Teacher Fellowship, Faculty Lectureship and Blue Key Distinguished Educator. He was presented an honorary doctorate by NDSU in 1985. Among his survivors are his wife, Bette, three daughters and one son.
