Thesis/ dissertation research

Aim: Determine the link between metal tolerance and rhizosphere biogeochemistry in wetland plants.

§         Greenhouse Studies – Column experiments using Rumex crispus and Typha angustifolia to investigate the changes in redox status, pH and element concentrations in the soil in the vicinity of plant roots under flooded and non-flooded conditions.

§         Field Studies – Field experiments to investigate element concentrations in the soil in the vicinity and away from the influence of wetland plant roots.

Aim: Determine plant species associated with turbid and clear shallow lakes.

§         Lake Study – Identify plant species and determine biomass of plant species of turbid and clear shallow lakes in Minnesota.

§         Measure pH, redox potential and element concentrations in the vicinity of and away from plant roots in turbid and clear lakes.
