Turquoise Jersey Silk Knit Dress

Dress, formal length, made of turquoise silk jersey knit. Bateau neckline with pleats at left front shoulder. Jeweled waistline of square, mirrored crystal beads, sequins, bugle beads, and seed beads. Long set-in sleeves. Center back zipper. Long A-line skirt with peplum effect overskirt with pleats at right front. c. 1956

In 1956, Fern wore this dress to a formal dinner for the Chief Justice Earl Warren at the White House. After dinner, members of the Lawrence Welk band, under his direction, played for dancing. Mrs. Welk danced with both Chief Justice Warren and President Dwight Eisenhower.
