REU Experience

Application process

Interested undergraduates are invited to complete the online application by February 15, 2014. A panel will review all applications and notify accepted applicants by the end of February. Accepted REU participants will join a Facebook community to begin building a network of colleagues prior to their arrival at NDSU.

Travel

Research on the Prairies begins May 27, 2014. Participants are expected to arrive prior to May 27 to ensure time to move in to on-campus housing. Travel to Fargo via (1) Hector International Airport, (2) Amtrak, or (3) by car.

The program

Prior to arrival, students will complete baseline and laboratory safety modules online.  On Tuesday, May 27, Research on the Prairies will begin with an orientation to Fargo, NDSU, and the research laboratories. Students will meet with their mentors, tour the campus, and end the day with a welcome BBQ.

Throughout the 10 weeks, students will:

  • Meet weekly with their project mentor(s)
  • Meet weekly with their cohort to build research skills and content knowledge
  • Conduct independent research
  • Contribute a blog entry about their research experience
  • Present their research at a end-of-summer poster symposium
  • Have fun!
