Lecture: 'The Conductor's Art' with Dr. Jo Ann Miller

Dr. Jo Ann Miller will present "The Conductor's Art" on Tuesday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Beckwith Recital Hall.

In her lecture, Dr. Miller will discuss how a conductor works to illuminate and bring to life the meaning and beauty of a piece of music.  This process has many layers and is all the more exciting because a conductor must communicate her understanding and passion for the music to her choir and ultimately to the audience.  The artistry of a conductor is the ultimate collaborative experience.

The NDSU Concert Choir will assist Dr. Miller in her lecture demonstration.

A reception will follow in the atrium outside of Beckwith Recital Hall.

Dr. Miller is the artistic director of the NDSU Baroque Festival and the chorus master of the Fargo Moorhead Symphony Orchestra.  She has earned a number of awards for her performances and teaching.   Among them are the Gold Medal at the Zadar International Choral Festival in Croatia in 2012, North Dakota Outstanding Choral Director award in 2004, and the Distinguished Educator Award given by the NDSU Blue Key Fraternity in 1998.  She was recently named a University Distinguished Professor, the highest honor awarded to faculty at North Dakota State University.
