NDSU Opera Symposium: Perspectives on The Magic Flute

In conjunction with its gala production of Mozart’s Magic Flute (April 26 and 28), the North Dakota State University School of Music will host a symposium entitled “Perspectives on Magic Flute" on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Beckwith Recital Hall. The symposium features presentations by nationally and internationally prominent individuals in the field of professional opera and academe.



Lawrence Kramer (distinguished Professor of English and Music at Fordham University and author of numerous books) will present “Time and Natural Magic in The Magic Flute.


J. Sherwood Montgomery (former co-director of Lyric Opera, San Diego) will present “Music as Theatre: What Young Singers Need to Know.”


Leon Natker (former co-director of Lyric Opera, San Diego) will present “Music as Theatre: What Young Singers Need to Know.”


Roger Pines (dramaturg of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and frequent contributor to Opera News magazine) will present “Singing The Magic Flute: A Journey through the Opera’s Discography.”
