Tom Christianson joined the NDSU faculty in 2000 as instructor of applied percussion. Prior to his appointment, he taught in the Fargo public schools and at the International Music Camp. An active performer, he serves as principal percussionist in the Fargo Moorhead Symphony Orchestra and principal timpanist in the Lake Agassiz Concert Band. As a studio musician he has appeared on eight albums on the Barking Dog Records label, including two with jazz vocalist Sarah Morrau. In addition, he has recorded two albums with the Gotham Wind Symphony, a New York-based wind band. As a drumset performer, he has performed with Charlie Byrd and Herb Ellis, and currently performs with the FM Kicks Band and the quartet Quiet Jazz.
