NDSU School of Music Celebrates with Gala Concerts
January 29, 2013
The North Dakota State University School of Music proudly announces two Inaugural Gala Concerts featuring their premiere ensembles, the NDSU Concert Choir and NDSU Wind Symphony, on Tuesday, March 12 at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Sunday, March 24 at 2:00 PM in Festival Concert Hall. Admission to both concerts is free.
The Gala Concerts are being held in celebration of the program’s recent recognition as a School of Music. The performances will feature the world premiere of Jocelyn Hagen’s Swimming Into Winter, a piece for choir and winds commissioned by the NDSU School of Music. Directed by University Distinguished Professor Dr. Jo Ann Miller, the NDSU Concert Choir will perform pieces by Edwin Fissinger, Libby Larson, Alberto Ginastera, and Josef Rheinberger. The NDSU Wind Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Warren Olfert, will perform pieces by John William, Tim Jackson, Piet Swerts, Percy Grainger, and Scott McAllister.
The North Dakota State Board of Higher Education officially changed the Department of Music to a School of Music in September 2012, signifying its far-reaching mission encompassing a broad based curriculum that includes professional doctoral programs in performance and conducting.
