Rooth Varland Degrees:
Rooth Varland joined the faculty at North Dakota State University in the Fall of 2000. She is the costume director for Little Country Theatre. Rooth was previously an Associate Professor of Theatre at the University of Mississippi and she has designed costumes for premier productions in Norway, Georgia, Mississippi, Minnesota, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Rooth received an MFA in Theatre Design from Northwestern University in 1988. In 1995, Rooth was an NEH fellow at the Center for 20th Century Studies where she studied Postmodern Performance Theory with Herbert Blau. In 2003, she was the recipient of the ACTF Kennedy Center Fellowship for designers. As resident designer at 7stages in Atlanta, she collaborated with theatre legend Joseph Chaiken on such shows as God of Vengeance, States of Shock and The Bald Soprano. While at 7stages she also designed costumes for the premieres of (Dis)Remember Me, A Glorrietta, and If It Was Easy. She designed costumes for the premiere season of the internet soap opera, "Ferndale," produced by Songline Studios of Sebastopol, California, in 1996. Her designs locally include A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Importance of Being Earnest, and Music Man for Little Country Theatre as well as Midsummer Night's Dream and Peter Pan for Gooseberry Park Players and Evita for Ursa Major Productions. |
