Su Legatt was born into a large, farming family in rural Minnesota. in 2003, she earned her B.F.A. from Minnesota State University Moorhead before continuing on to earn her M.F.A. from Utah State University in 2006. In the summers of 2005 and 2006, she had the great opportunity to work as an intern at Anderson Ranch Arts Center.

After graduation, Su went on to teach at several colleges and universities including Lake Superior College in Duluth, MN, where she was head of the photography program. After moving back to Moorhead, MN, she accepted positions at Minnesota State University Moorhead and North Dakota State University. Currently she is lecturer of photography at NDSU.

Her photography, installation, and mixed media work has been exhibited throughout the United States and Europe. She is involved with several workshop companies around the country and region in addition to working closely with several groups in the Fargo-Moorhead area to strengthen the role of art and artists in the community.

Through interactive installation, social engagement practices, and a variety of experimental digital and traditional photographic techniques, Su's work explores the individual's identity within our ever-changing world. She believes that by sharing our stories, memories, and associations, we both strengthen our identities and broaden our communities.
