Groberg to Present Communiversity Lecture September 12, 2007 - Dr. Kris Groberg, NDSU Visual Arts Assistant Professor, will be presenting a lecture entitled, “Imperial Blot on the Landscape; The Church on Blood and Domination of Public Space,” on September 21, 2007 from 3-5 p.m. in Minard Hall. Groberg will be presenting photographs taken during the construction, and personal photographs of the post-reconstruction, along with the story of murder and corruption. The lecture is sponsored by the NDSU Department of History. Groberg is also teaching a Communiversity class
entitled, “The
Devil in Russian Art,” in October at Concordia College. This class
will focus on representations of the Devil, Satan, Lucifer, Mephistopheles,
Daemons, and Demons. There is no charge for the class, but registration

Viterbo, Italy Scholarship Recipients Announced September 12, 2007 - The NDSU Department of Visual Arts is proud to announce Mackenzie Kouba and Aaron Pavlicek as recipients of the Viterbo, Italy scholarship. This scholarship, provided annually to an NDSU Visual Arts major, is sponsored by James Falck, patron of the department, the College of Arts , Humanities and Social Sciences, and Monserrat College of Art in Italy . The scholarship allowed Ms. Kouba and Mr. Pavlicek to study and take classes for four weeks with Montserrat College of Art. Classes offered during the summer semester include art history, figure painting and drawing, landscape photography, landscape painting, and journal writing. Ms. Kouba and Mr. Pavlicek will give a presentation about their experiences while studying in Italy on Thursday, September 29 at 5:15 pm at the NDSU Downtown Campus. The presentation is free and open to the public. This is the seventh year the Department of Visual Arts has offered this scholarship to art majors. Past recipients include Ryan Graba, Joe DeRosier, Dave Lewellyn, Jo Grover, and Ashley Buck.
August 30, 2007 - The NDSU Department of Visual Arts is proud to exhibit works created by studio and scholarship recipients through September 21 at the Reineke Visual Arts Gallery. A reception will be held Thursday, September 6 from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. at the gallery. Studio and scholarship recipients include:
Gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Reineke Visual Arts Gallery is located located at 1301 12 th Avenue North in Fargo .
Bromley Work Featured in Two Exhibitions August 30, 2007 - Kimble Bromley, NDSU Department of Visual Arts associate professor, will have art work featured in exhibitions at the Heritage Hjemkomst Interpretive Center and the Plains Art Museum this fall. Bromley will have a number of pieces in The Big Art Show, an exhibition sponsored by the Fargo Moorhead Visual Artists that will run through the end of October at the Heritage Hjemkomst Interpretive Center. Bromley’s piece “A Fresh Day” will be featured in the Plains Art Museum’s exhibition titled Fargo Moorhead Visual Artists Studio Crawl Preview. The exhibition runs through October 7 and offers the public the opportunity to see representative works of FMVA artists.
DVAG to Present Hoffart Exhibit August 22, 2007 - The NDSU Downtown Visual Arts Gallery will present an exhibit by local artist Mitch Hoffart. His exhibit, consisting of paintings and mixed media pieces, highlights his experimentation with different techniques. This process creates unexpected and unusual effects that can only be achieved by exploring the unknown. Hoffart has participated in exhibitions in North Dakota , Minnesota , and Colorado and is included in the NDSU Permanent Collection in addition to several private collections. He studied drawing, design and printmaking at NDSU and is a member of the Fargo-Moorhead Visual Artists. Hoffart is a Telecommunications Technician with Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute at NDSU. Hoffart’s exhibit will run September 13-October 7 with an artist reception on September 13 from 4:30-6:00 pm . The NDSU Downtown Visual Arts Gallery is located at 650 NP Avenue in Fargo . Gallery hours are 10am-4pm Monday through Friday, admission is free.
Kapplinger Artwork in American Print Exhibition August 22, 2007 - Kent Kapplinger, NDSU Associate Professor in Visual Arts, has been selected to participate in the American Print exhibition at the Foothills Art Center in Golden, Colorado, which runs through September 2. The exhibit is the first national juried printmaking exhibition hosted by the Foothills Art Center and aims to explore all the creative facets of printmaking currently being produced in the United States . Bill Goldston of Universal Limited Art Editions served as juror. He selected 69 works by artists living in 33 different states.
