PROGRAMS
Mission Statement
The Printmaking Education and Research Studio (PEARS) is a program
that promotes printmaking production education and innovation in the Midwest
region of the United States. The studio emphasizes new work, ideas, and
methods and facilitates interaction among a diverse audience. The studio
strives to be an advocate for understanding the past and shaping the future
of creative printmaking.
The PEARS Program
- offers educational printmaking classes, workshops,
and seminars
- rents use of the printmaking studio to qualified
artists
- collaborates with artists to create suites of prints
for purchase
- contract prints editions with invited artists
- displays, donates, and exchanges artwork produced
in the studio
- provides internships with master printer
Studio Facilities
The studio is housed in the Visual Arts Department of North Dakota
State University's renovated Downtown Campus in Fargo, ND. The studio's
3,700 square feet is properly ventilated and includes a large pressroom/workspace,
screenprint studio, aquatint and etching areas, and exposure room where
one can print in traditional and non-toxic intaglio, lithography, screenprint,
and relief methods. Digital capabilities include access to Mac or PC computers,
scanners, laser printers and large format inkjet printers.
Studio Equipment
- Lithographic presses: Takach-Garfield 40" x
72" motorized and 34" x 60" hand-operated
- Etching presses: Griffin Series II 26" x 52"
and Takach 40" x 72"
- Letterpress: Vandercook 2 14" x 20" with
various types
- Metal halide exposure units: NuArc MSP 31" x
40" & Tri-Light 42" x 60"
- Screenprinting units: AWR 44" x 64" one-man
squeegee printer and 8 hinge clamp stations
- Lithographic stones up to 32" x 40", hydraulic
lift-trick & 38" x 60" graining sink
- Assorted rollers, brayers, and 36" plate shears
