    Application Fees and Deadlines

The application for admission to the Graduate School is available online. The application fee for international students is $60 total ($35 application fee, $10 processing fee, $15 transcript evaluation fee). The fee for any subsequent application is $10. Payment can be made online using a credit card or a check payable to North Dakota State University can be mailed to the Graduate School . The deadline for submission is dependent upon the program. Please check the individual program requirements on the program pages of the website. If no deadline is listed, all application materials must be received before May 1 for the fall semester and prior to August 1 for the spring semester.

    Multiple Applications

If you choose to apply to more than one graduate program, you must submit a separate application, a statement of purpose, and a $10 processing fee. Letters of recommendation from the previous application will automatically be used unless you notify us of your intent to have others sent. If it has been more than two years since your previous application was submitted, you must also send three new letters of recommendation and any new transcripts. A new application is required if you wish to change your program or degree after you have already submitted an application.

    Reasons for Graduate Study Statement

Please state your reasons for pursuing graduate study, specifying your special interests within your chosen discipline and including your background preparation in that area. Mention any relevant skills or experience that you have acquired.

    Statement of Marks (Transcripts)

Official copies of your statement of marks (transcripts) from each college or university where you have been enrolled or are currently enrolled are required. Include both undergraduate and graduate work. The statement of marks and degrees should bear the original stamp/seal and signature of the school official responsible for issuing such records, such as the registrar or controller of exams for that institution. Records certified by lecturers, professors, tutors, or any other school officials who do not hold primary responsibility for maintaining the academic records of the institution will not be accepted. Notarized, faxed or scanned copies are not considered official. Only degrees received from colleges and universities recognized by the Ministry of Education of a foreign country or regional/global accreditation bodies are accepted.

Request that the institution(s) send the statement of marks directly to the Graduate School, North Dakota State University, P.O. Box 5790 , Fargo , ND 58105 . If official copies of your transcript are mailed from the institution to you, do not open them. We cannot accept transcripts unless they are in a sealed, stamped envelope.

Statement of marks from non-U.S. institutions are expected to be in the official language of the country in which they were earned. English language translations are also required. We will accept literal (not interpretative) English translations from any qualified translator, and the translations should be sent in addition to (not in lieu of) the official academic record.

    Letters of Recommendation

Three letters of recommendation are required from persons familiar with your academic achievements. Letters cannot be more than two years old. Letters can be sent to the Graduate School electronically or by mail. By including your recommenders' emails in the appropriate fields on the application, they will be sent an email that instructs them how to send the recommendations electronically. An alternative is to have the recommenders complete the NDSU Graduate School Personal Report form (MAKE IT A LINK) and ask them to mail it directly to the Graduate School or to you in a sealed envelope. The Graduate School will not accept letters of recommendation that have been opened.

    Required Test Scores:

    TOEFL

A TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score is required of ALL applicants whose native language is not English. The score must be submitted before your application will be considered. A minimum score of 525 (paper-based), 197 (computer-based), or 71 (internet-based) must be achieved on the TOEFL, or a score of 5.5 on the IELTS, to be considered for admission. Information about these tests is available from our website.

The requirement of a TOEFL or IELTS score may be waived for applicants from countries where English is the official language or for students who have earned a degree from a U.S. university or college. LINK to list of countries that don't require TOEFL .

Only official TOEFL scores are accepted. If you have taken the IELTS, please send a copy of your Test Report Form. TOEFL or IELTS scores older than two years are invalid and will not be accepted for admission.
