March 8, 2006The March meeting of the Graduate Council was called to order by Dr. Rodney Traub, at 8:40am, March 8, 2006, in the Badlands Room of Memorial Union. In attendance: Mark Aune, Joe Brennan, Ross Collins, Amanda Dillard, Jacob Glower, Harlene Hatterman-Valenti, Ayanava Majumdar, JoAnn Miller, Stephen O'Rourke, Judy Pearson, Donna Terbizan, Rodney Traub, Charlene Wolf-Hall. The minutes for the February 8, 2006 meeting were considered. Joe Brennan made a motion to approve the minutes. Judy Pearson provided the second. Motion carried. Teaching Waiver Request: The Council considered the request from the Mathematics Department to grant a teaching waiver to David Terhune to teach MATH 773 Number Theory in Spring 2006. Dr. Terhune is currently teaching the course. Dr. Wittrock would like the council's suggestion as to how to handle this situation. The suggestion was made to send the department a stern letter stating this is not to be done in the future. There was discussion that while this is a disturbing incident, it is probably not uncommon on campus. Donna Terbizan made a motion to approve the request. Joe Brennan provided the second. Motion carried. Course proposals: Donna made a motion to approve the course proposals. Mark Aune provided the second. Motion carried. Courses approved: ME 480/680 Advanced Fluid Dynamics BUSN 657 Leadership in Organizations NRM 431/631 National Environmental Policy Act & Environmental Impact Assessment NRM 432/632 Environmental Impact Statement CDFS 773 Foundations of Marital and Family Therapy I CDFS 774 Foundations of Marital and Family Therapy II CDFS 775 Clinical Applications of Marital and Family Therapy I EMGT 453/653 Emergency Management Law and Regulation ME 796 Advanced Biomechanics ME 796 Fracture Mechanics Business Graduate Assistant Policy: An open forum for faculty and students regarding the Graduate Assistant Policy was held February 21. Donna Terbizan was in attendance at the forum. She stated there were substantial changes made to the proposed policy. Suggested changes were made to the current version. There was discussion regarding the deletion of the paragraph regarding 3.0 GPA and students obtain additional employment on campus as opposed to off-campus. Rodney Traub said the changes will be brought to the Dean and the policy will be read again at the April meeting. Graduate Council Discussion At this time, Melissa was excused from the room so the council could discuss any issues regarding the Graduate Council or the Graduate School .
