    May 14, 2008

    The May meeting of the Graduate Council was called to order by Dr. Wittrock, at 8:35 am, May 14, 2008 in the Lake Agassiz Room in Memorial Union.

    In attendance: Bill Berzonsky, Jacob Glower, Eakalak Khan, Samudra Kugel, Renee Magnan, Brandy Randall, Seth Rasmussen, Rodney Traub, Charlene Wolf-Hall

    The minutes for the April 9, 2008 meeting were considered. Jake Glower made a motion to approve the minutes. Charlene Wolf-Hall provided the second. Motion carried.

    Requests for Associate Faculty Status/Teaching Waiver

    The Council considered a request from the Transportation and Logistics Program for Associate Graduate Faculty status for Richard Gutkowski. This appointment would be for three years and to serve on committees, not advise. Brandy Randall made a motion to approve. Rodney Traub provided the second. Motion carried.

    The Council considered a request from the Transportation and Logistics Program for Associate Graduate Faculty status for Khaled Ksaibati. This appointment would be for three years and to serve on committees, not advise. Rodney Traub made a motion to approve. Charlene Wolf-Hall provided the second. Motion carried.

    The Council considered a request from the Transportation and Logistics Program for Associate Graduate Faculty status for Peter Martin. This appointment would be for three years and to serve on committees, not advise. Brandy Randall made a motion to approve. Jake Glower provided the second. Motion carried.

    The Council considered a request from the Department of Cereal and Food Sciences for Associate Graduate Faculty status for Jae Ohm. This would be a six year appointment, with the ability to advise. Charlene Wolf-Hall made a motion to approve. Jake Glower provided the second. Motion carried.

    The Council considered a request from the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Emergency Management for Associate Graduate Faculty status for Leretta Smith. Jake Glower made a motion to approve for a teaching waiver only. Brandy Randall provided the second. Motion carried.

    The Council considered a request from the Transportation and Logistics Program for Associate Graduate Faculty status for Nadim Wehbe. This appointment would be for three years and to serve on committees, not advise. Jake Glower made a motion to approve. Bill Berzonsky provided the second. Motion carried.

    The Council considered a request from the Department of Geosciences for a Teaching Waiver for Sohyun Park for GEOG 655 Introduction to Geographic Information Systems. Jake Glower made a motion to approve. Brandy Randall provided the second. Motion carried.

    Charlene Wolf Hall provided the second. Motion carried.

    New Program/Program Changes

    Dr. Wittrock presented the proposal to change the title of the master's degree in Social Sciences Degree with a concentration in Anthropology to Master of Science/Master of Arts in Anthropology. This is just to remove the specialization of Anthropology and not get rid of the Social Sciences degree. Brandy Randall made a motion to approve. Bill Berzonsky provided the second. Motion carried.

    Dr. Wittrock presented the proposal for the Master of Software Engineering program. Jake Glower made a motion to approve. Eakalak Khan provided the second. Motion carried.

    Dr. Wittrock presented the proposal for the Master of Transportation and Urban Systems. This would be for both an M.S. degree and a professional degree. Jake Glower made a motion to approve. Charlene Wolf Hall provided the second. Motion carried.
