As we look into the future, we can see it..

We see a brilliantly shining perfect society, without the impurities of racial inequality. The meaning of the word racism is no longer comprehended and every newborn child is given the gift of equal opportunity. The color of skin is no longer relevant. Groups of minorities are welcomed by the majority and join to build a united community. Reaching this vision may seem an illusion, but we must embrace this illusion and make it a reality.

The World Through Different Perspectives

Many of us are unaware of the everyday issues that the minorities in our community face. We do not know what it is like to be misunderstood or excluded. No one stigmatizes us because of our ethnic background, and we are not judged on the basis of the color of our skin or the way we speak.

The expanding diverse heritages of our multi-cultural nation brings a rich variety of cultures, talents, and resources. When we use that richness positively, everyone benefits. We focus our efforts on becoming locally, nationally and globally prepared to deal with everyone.

The Cultural Diversity Project

The Cultural Diversity Project is an outcome of a regional collaboration. The cities of Fargo and West Fargo in North Dakota, and Dilworth and Moorhead in Minnesota, Cass and Clay Counties, United Way and the F-M Area Foundation provide financial support. The project was first made possible through a grant from Pew Partnership for Civic Change, an initiative funded by the Pew Charitable Trust. The Project was a response to the challenges and opportunities of diversity brought about by the increased population from diverse ethnic backgrounds. The goals of the Cultural Diversity Project are to:

      • Increase the understanding of the value of diversity in the community among leaders, adults and children.
      • Create an appreciation and awareness of cultural differences as reflected in the behaviors of employers, educational institutions and the general public.
      • Assist the minorities in overcoming barriers to community participation.
      • Support current and new community efforts that encourage diversity by developing and enhancing a "framework" of materials, events and structures that celebrate diversity.
