Welcome! We are glad you decided to take a look at the website for the College of Human Development and Education (HDE) at North Dakota State University. We hope you will take a few minutes and discover the programs, research areas, activities and resources that we offer. If you want to make a difference in people's lives, this is the place for you. Our College offers a wide variety of academic programs focused on the lives of individuals and their families as they interact in work, educational and living environments.
The administrative units in the College include: Apparel, Design, Facility and Hospitality Management; the Center for 4-H Youth Development; Child Development and Family Science; Education; and Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences. We offer 18 undergraduate programs plus 18 teaching specialities, and graduate study at the Master's, Specialist, Certificate and Doctoral levels. Several of our graduate programs are web-based, making it possible for students to complete their program from anywhere in the world. The Center for 4-H Youth Development offers learning opportunities outside the classroom across the state.
The College of Human Development and Education is home to over 1673 students and 125 faculty and staff. We house one of the largest doctoral programs on the campus, and enroll 20% of the graduate students. Through 4-H programming we reach over 42,000 North Dakota youth. Many of our academic programs have 100% job placement for graduates.
Classroom and hands-on experience are provided to promote learning. Students in all HDE programs have the opportunity to participate in experiential learning experiences, such as internships, practicum and student teaching. These experiences allow students to apply their classroom learning in real-life situations.
We believe that you will find the College of Human Development and Education to be a great place to learn and work. Please contact me if you have questions or would like more information about our programs. Thanks for visiting our website; I hope that you will also visit us on campus.
Best wishes,

Virginia Clark Johnson, Dean
