Welcome to the College of Human Development and Education Incoming Freshman Scholarship Information:
You will need to have Adobe Reader on your computer to apply for the scholarships on line. If you do not have this available to you, it may be downloaded free at this link: http://www.adobe.com/
Honor Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen students in the College of Human Development and Education with recipient selection based on academic merit. The scholarships will require an essay.
Who is Eligible? You are eligible to apply, if:
1. You have been admitted to North Dakota State University.
2. You have chosen a major in the College of Human Development and Education.
3. You have a composite score on your ACT of 21 or higher or SAT of 970 or higher and your score has been sent to NDSU.
Before you begin the application process, we recommend that you have a copy of your high school transcript handy to verify your GPA and ACT/SAT score.
Procedures for successful submission of applications:
Review the scholarship listing below as scholarships for incoming freshmen are based on your intended major. You will automatically be considered for all scholarships that correspond to your intended major. You will complete ONE APPLICATION FORM which will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee.
Click on the application form. If prompted by your browser to "open" or to "save", click "save". This file should be saved to your desktop and should be named using the following format: First Initial.Last Name. Close your browser and continue with the following steps:
- Open the saved copy of the PDF application form which is on your desktop using Adobe Reader, version 8 or newer. Fill in all of the required fields as incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Once your scholarship application is complete, please attach it to an email addressed to: NDSU-HDEAdmin@listserv.nodak.edu
- Print two copies of the LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION FORM. Give the form to two people to complete and return to our office (address on the form). When both letters of recommendation are received in our office, your application will be complete. When your application is received, you will be sent an email confirming your application.

Remember: Be sure to observe the criteria and deadline for the scholarship. Student academic records will be checked to verify that the recipient is enrolled in the College of Human Development and Education at the time of disbursement and is meeting all remaining requirements. It is the student's responsibility to submit scholarship applications. Scholarship recipients must comply with all university regulations. Withdrawal, change of major, suspension, or explusions disqualify the student for further aid. Scholarships are granted for the tuition year beginning with fall term. Evidence of registration into the college for each semester for which scholarship monies may be received will be required before monies will be issued.

Grace E. Bayliss Gold Memorial Scholarship
One award of $1000 for the following majors: Apparel and Textiles; Human Development and Family Science; Dietetics; Family and Consumer Sciences Education; Interior Design; Hospitality and Tourism Management. This award may be renewable through undergraduate years (sophomore, junior, senior) if the recipient maintains:
- A minimum of 3.0 cumulative grade point average;
- A minimum of 3.0 semester grade point average (SGPA);
- A minimum of 12 graded credits per semester;
- Actively seeks an undergraduate degree in the College of Human Development and Education
Grace E. Bayliss Silver Memorial Scholarship
Two scholarships of $500 for students enrolling in the following majors: Apparel and Textiles; Human Development and Family Science; Dietetics; Family and Consumer Sciences Education; Interior Design; and Hospitality and Tourism Management
Fargo Moorhead Convention and Visitor's Bureau Scholarship
One award of $500 for students majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Llyal and Roann Hanson and Family Scholarship
One scholarship of $495 for a students majoring in Dietetics. Preference will be given to individuals with financial need.
Dr. Gary Narum Endowed Scholarship Fund
This is a new scholarship for Teacher Education majors. Preference will be given to a recent graduate of Sargent Central High School in Forman, ND.
Alice Flaten Olsen and Ethel C. Flaten Olsen Scholarship
Four awards of $580 for the following majors: Apparel and Textiles; Human Development and Family Science; Dietetics; Exercise Science; Family and Consumer Sciences Education; Health Education; Interior Design; Hospitality and Tourism Management; Physical Education; and Sports and Recreation Leadership Studies.
Roger and Elsie Pitsenbarger Scholarship
Three awards of $700 for students majoring in Apparel and Textiles.
Lavonne Langbell Severson Endowed Fund
One award of $360 majoring in one of the following areas: Apparel and Textiles; Human Development and Family Science; Dietetics; Family and Consumer Sciences Education; Interior Design; and Hospitality and Tourism Management. Preference will be given to a graduate of a North Dakota High School.
Beverly Kurtz Slotten Scholarship
One award of $245 awarded to a student majoring in Apparel and Textiles; Human Development and Family Science; Dietetics; Family and Consumer Sciences Education; Interior Design; and Hospitality and Tourism Management. Preference will be given to a high school graduate of Richland County, North Dakota. If there is no eligible student from Richland County, then a student from North Dakota will be selected.
Tharaldson Enterprises Hospitality Scholarship
One award of $500 awarded to a student majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management.
North Dakota 4-H Foundation Scholarship
