About Phi Alpha Theta

We are a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of History through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication, and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. We seek to bring students, teachers, practitioners, and writers of History together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist the practice of History by our members in a variety of ways.

Phi Alpha Theta provides an opportunity for undergraduates, graduates, and professors of History to interact as fellow professionals. It also encourages History students to participate in the profession, at conferences and meetings. Finally, the organization recognizes excellence at all levels in the History profession by offering a number of awards for papers, dissertations, and other scholarly achievements.

The Alpha Iota Psi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta at North Dakota State University formed in the autumn of 2001. Its mission is to bring together people studying History for both professional advancement and pleasure. Through regular meetings, social events, banquets, attending conferences, and fundraising activities, the chapter aims to advance History at all levels and create collegiality among NDSU historians.
