NDSU takes first place in programming competition

The Digi-Key Medallion is coming home to NDSU. Under the coaching of Adam Helsene, computer science systems administrator, two teams of NDSU students traveled to Thief River Falls, Minn., to compete in the Digi-Key programming competition on Oct. 16.

Teams competed in three different sessions, including short programming problems, math and logic problems and long programming problems.

NDSU team Forseth Forever took first place in every round of the competition, scoring a total of 329 points and walking away with $3,000 and the Digi-Key Medallion. Team members include Nick Laney, Austin Dicken, Nathan Ehresmann and Shane Ewert. Each student received a $200 Best Buy gift card.

The University of North Dakota took second place with 246.5 points and St. John's University took third place with 238.5 points. Other universities competing included Bemidji State University, St. Cloud State University, Dickinson State University, University of Minnesota Morris and Concordia College.

NDSU team Aftermath took eighth place. Team members include Edin Alic, Geoff Timm, Lucas Bremseth and Joe Bredahl. They received second place in the math and logic problems session.
