Projects, Fellowships, Other Teaching (a sampling)

My main teaching interest at the moment is a new advanced creative writing workshop, English 423, to be offered Fall 2006.

I also head up a project called Poetry on Wheels. Poems by students, teachers, and classic writers are posted on city buses all around the Fargo/Moorhead area. I hope to involve my creative writing students in this project increasingly.

Along with other senior lecturers in English, I'll soon be preparing for our new vertical writing curriculum, and teaching some new courses across the disciplines.

With several other department members, I've been working on a five-year study called The Blue Bread of Every Day: Reading Students Reading Poetry. I've never actually done this kind of research, which includes an online survey, but I've always been very curious about how students read poems, and why they respond as they do. It's really interesting to discover the earliest sources of their attitudes about poetry, including family and community influences.

I recently put together a website for the lecturers in English. It's not complete yet, but here's a sneak peek.
