Rosa Parks Event
Still looking for Cultural Currents possibilities? I'm passing along one I received.
A Tribute to Rosa Parks
1913-2005
Monday, December 5th at 12:00pm in Century Theater
On December 1, 1955 Mrs. Rosa Parks, the Alabama seamstress whose soft-spoken refusal to give up her bus seat to a white man triggered the Montgomery bus boycott, the first great mass action in the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, died October 24, 2005. She was 92.
You are invited to a program to honor Mrs. Rosa Louise McCauley Parks and her lifetime of work as a Civil Rights activist.
Come celebrate the life of the "Mother of Civil Rights" and the 50th anniversary of an event that changed the country. Film-"Standing on the Shoulder of My Sisters" 1:00-2:00pm & 7:00-8:00pm

Folksong Program in Pavek on 1 December
History & Folksong
Presentation & Discussion by Prof. Tom Isern
Folksongs offer a fun and alternative view of the events of history. They speak from the point of view of ordinary people, presenting the consensus from the grassroots. They can be funny, frank, and sometimes scandalous. Following up on folksong presentations featured in his American history courses, Dr. Isern will sing and invite discussion of several folksongs dealing with historical events. Got one of your own to share? Feel free!
Students in Isern’s HIST 103 or 431 classes: This program can be used as a make-up for one class day’s attendance-participation points.
Free to All NDSU Students & the Public
Where: Pavek Hall Lounge
When: 7:00 PM Thursday 1 December

Cultural Currents possibility
Although the following is not an NDSU event, it is directly related to the state university system. Dr. Isern has thus agreed to a special dispensation to depart from the guidelines of the assignment for those who would like to attend.
Nov. 30: Effects of UND’s Mascot, 11 a.m., Minnesota State University of Moorhead, CMU 207. Students from UND’s BRIDGES organization will discuss the effect the “Fighting Sioux” mascot has had on the university and community.

Exam 2 Scores
Mr. Armstrong has passed me the scores for Exam 2. I had to delete several lines from the table; we post according to the three-digit ID# specific to this course, and I noticed in several cases it appeared people had filled in other ID#s, which we cannot use for posting. So if your score is missing from the table, you'll have to check with Armstrong for it.
Here are the scores.

Little Country Theater
I'm posting this notice from Fine Arts, about a LCT event that would do nicely for the Cultural Currents assignment.
NDSU Little Country Theatre presents
An Evening of One-Act Plays
featuring
The Zoo Story by Edward Albee
The Intruder by Maurice Maeterlinck
November 17-19 at 7:30 pm
Walsh Studio Theatre (Askanase Hall)
http://www.ndsu.nodak.edu/finearts/theatre/lct/season/one_acts.html
The Zoo Story describes what happens when one character enters the life of another and quickly changes it forever. Filled with "characters" that populate the imaginations of the audience, The Zoo Story demands attention with themes of absurdity versus reality, alienation, loneliness, wealth, and poverty.
In
The Intruder, a family has gathered in the house in which a new mother and her child are both near death. As they struggle with unanswered questions, the mood becomes the focus rather than the story. An interesting experimental piece that is perfect for those who like unconventional theatre.
Tickets are $8 for adults: $6 for seniors, NDSU staff/faculty/alumni, and non-NDSU students; and $2 for NDSU students. Call the NDSU Fine Arts Box Office at (701) 231-9442 to reserve your tickets today!

Pavek Event
Hey, here's something I've tentatively scheduled; I'll announce more definitively when it firms up. I plan to do a program called "History & Folksong" in the Pavek Lounge at 7:00 the evening of Thursday 1 December. This will be another attendance make-up oppoortunity for people in this class. It won't be eligible for the Cultural Currents assignment, as for that, you should be hearing someone other than me. Anyway, in this program I'll sing some folksongs from history, and if anyone else wants to sing one, that will be cool, too.

Join Phi Alpha Theta or History Club
(The following is a paid commercial advertisement by Dr. Ineke Justitz, faculty advisor to History Club and Phi Alpha Theta.)
The mission of the Alpha Iota Psi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta (PAT) at NDSU is to bring together people studying history for both professional advancement and pleasure. Through regular meetings, social events, banquets, conference attendance, and fundraising activities, the chapter aims to advance history at all levels and create collegiality among NDSU historians. History Club closely follows the activities of PAT. Members participate in the same events. Club membership, unlike PAT, requires no minimum GPA and is open to anyone interested in history. Join the History Club now, and pay NO DUES until September 2006. For membership details contact Dr. Ineke Justitz: Ineke.Justitz@ndsu.edu
