Assessment in HIST 104 DCE We’re talking here about assessment, not evaluation. Evaluation is how you are graded; we evaluate your quizzes, assignments, and participation in order to determine a grade. Assessment, on the other hand, is a matter of checking up on how the course is going, so that we can improve it. We need your help on this, in two ways. 1. After you have worked through a lecture, write an e-mail to your instructor about it with a question or a suggestion. This may be a question about the content, something that you need answered or explained. If a number of people ask about some particular thing, then one of us will answer via the weblog. Or, your message may convey a suggestion—how something in the lecture could be presented more clearly or made easier to understand. You are required to respond by e-mail in this fashion to no less than five of the fifteen lectures. This is required as part of your participation in the course. 2. Complete a final, summary assessment of the course. This will be done by e-mail. You’ll get an e-mail from your instructor, and you will be required to respond. In time we expect to add other elements of assessment to the course, but for now, we appreciate your cooperation in these. |
