Virtual Office Hours

Howdy, ya'll! We will be in the Virtual Office tomorrow, January 25, from 7 to 8 p.m. Central Time to discuss whatever comes up. To join us, just follow the link to the right to the Virtual Office Hours chat room. When you log on, please use your first and last name so I can better identify you, or if you are not comfortable with that, at least your first name initial and last name, or first name and last name initial.

Quiz 2

Quiz 2 is uploaded and ready for you. After viewing Lecture 2, and doing the Tocqueville reading that goes with it, access the quiz here: http://www.plainsfolk.com/webquiz/quizzes/104quiz2.asp

I know that because of delays in gathering mailing addresses, and because of the snafu with Mr. Cummings's e-mail address, some of you are still working on Lecture 1 and Quiz 1. That's why Mr. Cummings is leaving Quiz 1 up for the rest of the week--you can still take it. Others of you, however, are ready for Quiz 2, so now it's ready for you, too.

Virtual Office Hours

Notice the link at right for Virtual Office Hours. This leads to a page where you can log into a chatroom. I'm going to be there from 7 to 8 (Central Time) tomorrow night, Thursday the 18th. If you have questions for me, or just want to talk about the course or about History, come on in! Mr. Cummings, of course, is the instructor and administrator of the course; I'm the author of it. If there are any problems out there, then in the chat he and I can put out heads together (virtually) and fix them. Or, as I say, if you're just interested in History and want to talk about it, that's great, too.

Quiz 1 Update

Because of the difficulties with my e-mail account, we are starting out with a slight delay, a couple of days. Taking that into consideration, the first quiz will be available until Friday, January 26. Don't let this be an excuse to procrastinate, however, I recommend getting a little ahead of the work. Makes it a whole lot easier come April!

CDs & Quizzes

Lecture CDs have gone out to everyone for whom Mr. Cummings or I had a postal mailing address. Some people likely are receiving CDs this afternoon. Which means those people will want to take a quiz soon over Lecture 1. Well, it's ready for you.

To access the quiz, you will need the username and password that Mr. Cummings has sent you in an e-mail.

For the quiz, go here: http://www.plainsfolk.com/webquiz/quizzes/104quiz1.asp

Seven questions, four minutes to complete. You can only access the quiz once.

Good luck!

Getting Started

To all enrolled students: here's an apology for some communication problems that have come up here early in operations. Evidently the Internet provider messed up Mr. Cummings's account. For now, I'm asking you to send your postal mailing address to me, here: isern@plainsfolk.com

Even if you already sent you address to Mr. Cummings, send it to me, as I'm going to be updating the mailing roster.

We may be a little late, too, getting started with the units, and have to adjust the calendar accordingly, because of the IP problem. Watch this space, and your e-mail, for announcements. Again, sorry about the inconvenience, and thanks for helping to get things in order.

Ready for Business (Pretty Much)

I've spent much of today posting pages to the website for HIST 104 DCE, getting ready for the first distance offering of the course beginning this week. The first week, by the way, is set aside for arrangements. This week we'll be communicating with students enrolled in the course, gathering mailing addresses to send out CDs containing lectures. So it will be next week before actual work begins for students. In the meantime, please do respond to e-mail communications, so that we can get arrangements in place in timely fashion. Bill Cummings is the instructor for HIST 104 DCE. I'll be helping out with getting the course started.
