Quizzes

As I mentioned in a post to the Gaps, I lost nearly everything when my computer crashed the other day, including the quiz program. I have sent the userfiles to Dr. Isern and requested that he publish the quiz. Look for it tomorrow. I've put in about 10 or 12 hours trying to get everything working right, but it has been a real pain! Sorry for the inconvenience.

This unit talks about the American rise to world power and its entrance as an imperial power. Many nations still accuse the US of being imperialistic. What does TQ say? What do you think...about the early 20th century and 100 years later?

Quiz 5

Quiz 5 is available at http://www.plainsfolk.com/webquiz/quizzes/104quiz5.asp when you are ready.

This lesson is about the Populist movement of the 1880s and 1880s. TQ tells us about the "sovereignty of the people." AS Dr. Isern asks, if the people are sovereign, "why did the Populist Party arise outside of the main parties?"

And to tie this to current events, the commentators are saying that the Democrat primaries are so close that the nominee will be selected not by the voters, but by 'Superdelegates," that is, party bigwigs like Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, and Nancy Pelosi. How does that relate to TQ?

Good luck.

For Unit 4, we will be working onTQ's famous concept, "the tyranny of the majority." Does the majority rule in America? Does gauranteed protection of minorities result in 'minority rule?' If 'the majority rules,' how can unpopular laws be passed? This topic hits all of us right at home and involves giving preference to one group's rights of those of another.
