Fall Calendar

Greetings to all enrolled in HIST 104 via this Distance & Continuing Education section. I'm the author of the course; it's me you will hear on the talking CDs. Now and then I do a little troubleshooting as to the technology of the course, but substantially, the course is taught and administered from here on by Mr. Bill Cummings. You already should have heard from him be email. Get him your mailing address, so I can send you your CDs for the course. Follow his instructions as to getting organized and started for the course. Good luck! And welcome, or welcome back, to NDSU. Go Bison.

Oh, by the way - Bill worked out the calendar for the fall term, and I just posted it to the website. Bill, take a look at this to check it, OK? And all the rest of you, have look also, to see how things are laid out.

Gearing up for Fall

Welcome to the homepage for HIST 104 DCE!! We are gearing up for Fall semester at this time.

If you have enrolled in this course, make sure you have sent your physical mailing address to me. We need that to get your lecture CDs mailed out. Then, make sure to familiarize yourself with this page and the connected links. This is the full syllabus.

If you have not enrolled in the class, look around and see what we do. If you like what you see, why not join us for the semester. It is not as complicated as it looks, and I will provide as much support as I can. We still have a few seats left, at the moment, but they are filling quickly!

Now, a word about "Blackboard." WE DO NOT USE BLACKBOARD FOR THIS COURSE! Blackboard is a great program for some courses, but it doesn't fit well with what we do here. The only thing we use Blackboard for is a convenience location for your scores. I have also put up a couple of items to answer some common questions, and a chapter equivalency guide for several versions of the text book, but everything you will need to succeed in this course is on this webpage along with the linked pages.

I am looking forward to an interesting semester!! This is my ninth time teaching the course, and it is fun each time! Welcome!!!

End of the Line

We have arrived at the end of the line. All assignments are due by noon tomorrow, Friday, August 7, 2009. I will accept Final Assessments until Sunday, August 9, at noon.

I updated BlackBoard yesterday between 11:00 a.m. and 2 p.m. Please check to make sure you have submitted all assignments you have completed. Also make sure to complete all remaining quizzes, including any you may have missed earlier this semester. All quizzes are available at this time.

While lack of participation on the Gap is a bit disappointing, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with each of you. You have my best wishes for your future.

Unit 15 - the End of History

An historian by the name of Fukuyama claimed that with the end of the Cold War came the end of history. This pretty much shows how little people know of history!!! As Dr. Isern wraps up a few of the major events of the last 30 or 40 years we do come to the end of HIST 104. Let's end the class on a high note, with plenty of comments on the Gap.

You will find Quiz 15 at http://users.smartlite.it/historyrfd/quizzes/104quiz15.asp
