Magazine Reports for HIST 381

Our library holdings for journals and magazines on Australia and New Zealand are, well, nonexistent. I do have, however, personal collections of several general-interest periodicals, including

·        North And South – general feature magazine of New Zealand

·        Outback – magazine of Australia’s R.M. Williams Company

·        Australian Geographic – magazine of the Australian Geographic Society

You may have access to other magazines from Australia or New Zealand, and you can use these, on approval by my assistant or me. The assignment is rather simple.

1.      Study two issues of the magazine. This doesn’t necessarily mean read everything in them, but it means read substantially in both.

2.      Determine, from your study of the magazines themselves or from external sources, the nature, purpose, and audience of the magazine.

3.      Take some notes on articles you find of particular interest or find of particular pertinence to our study of Australia and New Zealand.

4.      Write a brief (250-300 words) report on the magazine and what you read in it. Post your report to the Backbencher.
