Newspaper Reports for HIST 381
This assignment makes use of online newspapers from Australia and New Zealand. There are many
available, of which these are a few main ones.
·
New
Zealand Herald
·
The Press
(Christchurch)
·
Sydney Morning
Herald
·
The
Age (Melbourne)
You can use other newspapers, too, so long as they are
general-interest papers in Australia
or New Zealand.
Special-interest papers, too, may be all right to use, if approved by my
assistant or me. Here’s what to do.
1. Study
three issues of the newspaper. This doesn’t necessarily mean read everything
in them, but it means read substantially in all.
2. Take
some notes on articles you find of particular interest or find of particular
pertinence to our study of Australia
and New Zealand.
3. Tell
us how your reading of this newspaper shapes your thinking about life
(society, politics, choose any aspect or aspects of life you wish, except
don’t do more than one newspaper report focusing on sport) in Australia or New Zealand.
4. Write
a brief (250-300 words) report on the newspaper and what you read in it. Post
your report to the Backbencher.
