This movie is a powerful tale about a former servant, played by Micheal Eisner, who after losing his master is taken into a group of fur traders hot on the trail for some Indians they believe to have taken their horses, eventually leading to the Cypress Hills Massacre. Which also brought to life some of the story that Sharp told in his book. This story is set against this same charactor, Shorty McAdoo, 50 years later and his interactions with the movie industry who is trying to get his life story to make an "authentic" western movie.
This is a great movie, because it takes into account the idea that the West has had a certain mythic stamp put on it with the movie studios approach at altering the true story that McAdoo presents, and the coinciding true story and happenings by the members of the group who committed the Cypress Hills Massacre.
Without ruining too much, the best part of this movie is the struggle 1920's McAdoo has with his actions during that time he spent with the members of the Cypress Hill's Massacre. There are a couple scenes toward the end that are almost hard to watch because of how brutally honest and horrible the actions were. It is a good piece to show the attempts of how we try to change the bad things in our past, as well as how even the "rough, wild cowboys" must deal with their past actions.
