I have always loved History and have appreciated it ever
since I was a boy. After earning my B.A. in History from the University of Minnesota, I pursued graduate
studies at Minnesota State University-Mankato, earning an M.A. in History
there. I currently teach European History (Western Civilization sequence),
American Government, and Minnesota History at Lake
Superior College
in Duluth.
I teach chiefly in an online environment, and have done so since 2002. I
also have a significant background in Informational Technology, which has
been of great benefit to me. All of my students are undergraduate
non-majors (we do not offer History as a major there), and so my position
presents me with some interesting challenges. My interests in History are
wide and varied (bad for choosing a dissertation topic, good for teaching a
wide variety of courses!). One of the reasons I chose the Ph.D. program at
NDSU-UND was because it presents an opportunity to earn additional minors
in History aside from the main focus area. This will be of great benefit to
me in my current position. As I progress through the program, I am looking
forward to focusing in on academics, and eventually researching and writing
my dissertation(!). On a more personal note, I
have spent many summer days driving around the land of the Dakotas and Minnesota, visiting
historic sites and taking pictures. It is an on-going project that I hope
will never end.
