How to Cite a Thesis or Dissertation

The format here is rather self-explanatory. I’ll illustrate with first citation, then second citation, of my own thesis and my own dissertation, from back when God was young. Here’s the first citation of each.

34. Thomas D. Isern, "The Making of a Gold Rush: Pike's Peak, 1858-1860" (MA thesis, Oklahoma State University, 1975), 12-14.

35. Thomas D. Isern, "Custom Combining on the Great Plains: A History" (PhD dissertation, Oklahoma State University, 1977), 210-22.

Now here is the second citation of each work.

38. Isern, “Making of a Gold Rush,” 22.

39. Isern, “Custom Combining on the Great Plains,” 233.
