Down with the Quonsets
I felt a certain irony while enjoying the NDSU Downtown dedication, knowing that the same week we there celebrated an achievement in historic preservation, we also commenced demolition of the Art Quonsets a.k.a. the Naval Reserve Armory on campus. Last year I wrote a Plains Folk column about the origins of quonsets and their peculiar historic importance to land-grant universities. The armory, I am certain, could have been adjudged eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
