This weblog provides updates about Dr. Isern's teaching and professional activities at North Dakota State University. It also notices accomplishments of NDSU students and comments on matters of the NDSU community.
On Tuesday 2 October Jessica Clark did a splendid job discussing the Dakota Memories Oral History Project during the "Hear It Now" show on North Dakota Public Radio.
Listen to the interview here. Jessica's segment is the secod half of the show.
I'm taking the liberty of sharing extracts from a postcard written by Tricia Velure Nissen, one of our distinguished MAs, on the occasion of her visit to the Justin Smith Morrill State Historic Site, Strafford, Vermont. Tricia writes, "It's probably the most impressive historic home of its size that I've ever visited. Lots of practical things on site, though. His gardening plans for one year were on display--they included 20 apple & 17 pear varieties. He was very busy testing things out! This was a highlight of the trip."
Those familiar with the provisions of the Morrill Act will appreciate that Tricia signed her card, "Liberally & practically."
If you've been following Bison football, then you know that linebacker Kole Zimmerman has been having a heck of a season. Whether you care about football or not, I invite your attention to this link (courtesy Bison Athletics)--
http://www.gobison.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=11850&SPID=695&DB_OEM_ID=2400&ATCLID=195372where you'll read that Zimmerman is NDSU's nominee for the 2005 Draddy Trophy. Quoting from www.gobison.com, "Known in many circles as the 'Academic' Heisman, the Draddy Trophy continues to be one of college football's most sought after and competitive awards, recognizing an individual as the absolute best in the country for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership."
Zimmerman doesn't really look like 225 pounds to me, but I'm sure, on the other hand, that his reported GPA is accurate. Impressive.
Three History PhD students from NDSU presented papers at the annual Northern Great Plains History Conference. This is a splendid showing! The three are:
Jessica Clark, "Shaping Memories: West Germany's Holocaust Education, 1945-1970"
Yolanda Lara Arauza, "Settlement and Assimilation of the Mexican Population in Moorhead, Minnesota"
Dave Mills, "Vietnam and the Vice Presidency of Hubert Humphrey"
