This table synthesizes department requirements for the master's degree with my recommendations. I encourage pursuit of the thesis option (the table assumes this) for the MA degree (which differs from the MS in that it has a foreign language requirement).

	Another graduate course in American History (3)
European or World History	HIST 760 or HIST 780 (3)

Outside Field	Two graduate courses in a selected discipline other than History (6)
Foreign Language	12 hours of a foreign language or passing the standardized exam

*You can take two courses, 6 hours, as individual studies (HIST 793). This is particularly important for part-time students from off-campus, but it also is a way for you to pursue directed readings that will prepare you for comps.
