Sociology Description


Sociology is the study of social interaction, social structure, and organized social and cultural patterns that comprise societies. Curriculum flexibility allows majors to pursue various interests. Areas of study include small groups, population, inequality, diversity, gender, social change, families, community development, organizations, health care, and aging.

Major

The Sociology major consists of 17 credits of core foundation courses, 12 credits of core anchor credits and 9 elective credits from the 300 and/or 400 level courses.

Sociology Minor
The 19-credit sociology minor includes ANTH 111, SOC 110, 340, 341, and 422. At least six additional credits must be taken in sociology.

Community Development Minor
The Community Development minor is an applied, multidisciplinary program consisting of 18 credits that includes course work and an experiential component.
