Welcome to our show.
"Illustrations of Tree Diseases" was developed for an upper division
undergraduate course. The emphasis is on diseases and disorders found
in the upper midwestern states.
These pictures are best viewed on a monitor of 256-color quality or
better. For best results use a browser which can handle both '.gif'
and '.jpg' images, such as Netscape Navigator or equivalent.
For Optimum viewing, set page width to full screen, set font size
(Preferences Menu) to 12, and close the toolbars.
The best way to learn about tree problems is to get out there on the
ground and see for yourself.
These
pictures are no fair substitute for doing. They are intended to
supplement that activity, for times of the year when symptoms are not
available, or to illustrate problems not immediately accessable.
The images included in these collections were scanned from slides
used by Professor R. W. Stack in his course, Tree Diseases (PltPath
456), at North Dakota State University. All of the images are
original photographs, mostly taken by Prof. Stack. A few pictures are
borrowed and are included here by permission and with
acknowledgement. The images are organized according to the course
syllabus.
This collection is intended to serve as illustrative material to
show what certain diseases look like. It is not intended as
a basis for diagnosis. Diagnosis of the cause of a particular
problem requires more than comparison to a few pictures. University
Extension services in most states provide such services through
county agents. In North Dakota contact the Plant Diagnostic Lab
(701)231-7854.
These images are provided for the personal use of students, scholars,
and the public.
Any commercial use or publication of them is strictly prohibited.
The images were scanned and processed by the author at the Multimedia
Resource Center, North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND 58105.
