The Office of International Programs (OIP) staff works closely with the campus community and contributes to NDSU's world-class environment in research and scholarship by facilitating the hire of permanent and temporary teaching and research faculty, and the hosting of visiting scholars from around the world. The Assistant Director of Faculty Immigration is available to answer questions that departments may have about complex immigration regulations pertaining to the employment of international faculty and visiting scholars.

Primary responsibilities of faculty and scholar immigration staff

  • Provides orientation and immigration information to all visiting scholars and international faculty.
  • Provides the paperwork and hosting guidelines to bring visiting scholars to engage in collaborative research.
  • Secures U.S. work authorization for international employees at North Dakota State University.
  • Provides information on federal and state regulations for international faculty in temporary and permanent positions.
  • Assists with employment-based permanent immigration at the discretion of the hiring department.

SEVIS fee increase to $180
For those applying for J-1 visas, the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) fee has increased from $100 to $180.

TN period of admission increases to 3 years
This final rule increases the maximum allowable period of admission for TN nonimmigrants from one year to three years, and allows otherwise eligible TN nonimmigrants to be granted an extension of stay in increments of up to three years instead of the previous maximum of one year.
