Health Insurance for International Students

Health care in the United States is expensive and the individual is responsible for paying the medical costs. The government does not pay for it. For this reason, all international students studying in North Dakota are required to purchase the North Dakota State mandated health insurance policy. Having health insurance protects the individual by helping pay the medical expenses if he/she should become ill or be involved in an accident.

Insurance coverage and payment is required by the State of North Dakota. The North Dakota state-mandated health insurance policy for international students is provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota, and the plan's name is "ND Student Blue." It has a $100 deductible per injury or illness. However, the deductible is waived if the student first receives treatment at the Student Health Center on campus.

For the Spring 2013 semester, please note: All international students must pay their health insurance charge of $750 no later than February 13, 2013. Failure to pay this charge by February 13th will result in the cancellation of your spring semester 2013 registration.  This is a very serious consequence which would result in your required departure from the United States.

THE STATE PROVIDER FOR INSURANCE IS NOW BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF NORTH DAKOTA
