International Friendship Family Program

The Friendship Family Program (FFP) is an NDSU based program that seeks to promote international understanding by bringing together Fargo-Moorhead area families or individuals and international students that attend NDSU.

Discover International Friendship and its Benefits

Every year dozens of international students come to Fargo to study, to do research, or to learn English. Yet many of these students will never step foot inside an American home while they are here.

Learning about another culture is an enjoyable way to expand your awareness of the diversity of the world and a practical way of promoting international understanding and peace between nations.

What are the obligations of a Friendship Family?

Friendship families act as contacts and resources to the international students. Hosts have no financial obligation and, since this is not a homestay program. students do not live with their friendship families.

What happens after a student is assigned to a Friendship Family will depend on the mutual interests of each student and host. For example, hosts might invite students for a dinner at home, attend a cultural or sporting event, take a trip shopping, or participate in other similar activities.

What commitment do i make if i participate?

Your match with an international student is made from one academic year, from August to May or for the remainder of that period if made mid-year.

We suggest you meet with your student once a month to keep your friendship growing. During periods when your schedule is irregular or your international friend is busy, telephone calls and emails can help bridge the gap between personal visits.

New participants are also asked to attend an orientation session in Fall.

How can i get involved?
