Connecting your personal computer (Windows XP) to GoPrint
- Click on the Start menu, and open the Control Panel
- Open Printers and Faxes
- Double-click on Add Printer
- Choose Local printer attached to this computer
- Make sure Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer is unchecked, and then click Next
- Under Select a Printer Port, choose Create a New Port
- In the Type of port field, choose Standard TCP/IP Port, and then click Next
- When the TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard appears, click Next
- In the Printer Name or IP address field, type goprint.ndsu.nodak.edu
- In the Port Name field, type in the Queue Name for the printer (see the Printer Locations and Queue Names table, below), and then click Next
- If additional port information is required, choose Standard Network Card or Generic Network Card
- Click Next, and then click Finish
- Choose the printer type/driver as listed in the Printer Locations and Queue Names table below. If your printer model is not listed, go to hp.com and download a PCL driver for that model.
- Click Next
- In the name field, type in a name for the GoPrint station that will allow you recognize it, and then click Next
- If prompted to share, choose Do not share
- If asked if you would like to print a test page, choose No
- Click Next, and then click Finish
- Right click on the printer that you just added
- Choose Properties, and click on the Ports tab
- Select the Port Name you created earlier, and make sure you keep it checked
- Click Configure Port
- Under Protocol, check LPR
- Under LPR settings, click LPR Byte Count Enabled
- Type in the Queue Name of the printer you want to connect to (see the Printer Locations and Queue Names table, below)
- Click OK, and then click OK/Close
- You should now be ready to print
Finding your computer name
In order to efficiently locate your print job on a GoPrint station, you should first identify the name of your personal computer:
- On your personal computer, click Start, and right click on My Computer
- Click Properties, and then click Computer Name
- If you want to change your computer name to something more recognizable, click Change
- Type in a new computer name (e.g., Petes_Computer)
- Click OK, and then click OK to finish
- If you changed your computer name, restart your computer so the change takes effect
