ClamXav Anti-Virus for Mac OS X |
At this time there is not a Microsoft Forefront installation for Macintosh computers. ClamXav is a free and legal alternative whose license allows for installation on institutional (NDSU owned) computers as well as for home and personal use. While not supported by IT, below is some basic information. Currently NDSU is migrating from McAfee Viruscan Enterprise to the Microsoft Forefront anti-virus program. To install ClamXav, visit the website and download the file to your desktop. Once it is on the desktop, double click on the ClamXav file to open the installation window. It should look something like this:
Drag the ClamXav icon over the Applications folder and drop it to begin the software installation wizard. It should look like this:
To begin, click on "Install". During this process you will be prompted to authorize the installaton. When this happens, just log in using your mac account and password. At this point, just follow the installation instructions. We recommend accepting all default settings during installaton. Once installed, you may be prompted to update the software, if prompted, be sure to allow it to update.
