Please note that the following information is primarily intended for technical support staff and advanced users. Editing the system registry can have catastrophic consequences if done incorrectly. If you are having difficulty using Dropbox after having your computer migrated to the domain, please contact the IT Help Desk at 231-8685 (option 1).
ISSUE:
After a computer that was using Dropbox has been joined to the AD, any account that was migrated can no longer access Dropbox. This does not affect new accounts created on the computer after joined to the AD or computers that did not have Dropbox installed prior to the migration.
SOLUTION:
Remove the customer's Dropbox\ks key in the registry to allow them to re-install Dropbox. Then move their Dropbox folder and have all files resynchronize. To do this, we will first take ownership (control) of the key and then delete it. Please note: This must be done INSIDE the customer's profile, using the CUSTOMERS credentials for ALL UAC requests
1) Open the Registry Editor by clicking on Start and then Run - type Regedit
2) Browse to the following key - HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Software\Dropbox\ks
3) Highlight ks
4) From the file menu at the top click on Edit and then Permissions *click OK on any error messages you may receive
5) In the new window, click on advanced and then OK. Now click on the Owner tab at the top.
6) Highlight your user name in the list, check 'Replace owner on subcontainer and objects', then click Apply and OK
7) Click OK again and return to the registry editor.
8) Highlight ks again
9) From the file menu at the top click on Edit and then Permissions *click OK on any error messages you may receive
10) Highlight your name, and select Allow - under Full Control, click Apply, OK
11) Right click on, and delete the ks key
Part 2
12) Open c:\users\first.last (customer's name)
13) This is the default location for the Dropbox folder. If it is not here, it may be in the customers 'Documents' folder. CUT the Dropbox folder from its current location and paste into another folder. (i.e. C:\D\)
14) Reinstall Dropbox. This will install Dropbox and resynchronize files.
