Requesting a New List

New list requests can be made by submitting the online List Request Form

Filling out the form:

  • University Affiliation
    • The University Affiliation becomes a part of the list name
    • Select the University you are affiliated with
    • Example: If the University Affiliation is NDSU, then the list name will be NDSU-listname@listserv.nodak.edu
    • Select Other if no affiliations apply
  • Enter the desired list name
    • List names cannot be duplicated so if the requested list name is already taken it will either be modified during creation or the requester will be contacted to provide a different name
    • Do not use spaces or special characters. Only use a dash (-) to separate words
  • List Title
    • This should be a brief title describing the nature of the list
    • Limited to 80 characters
  • Reply to
    • List (Discussion Mode)
      • All replies will be sent to subscribers
    • Sender
      • All replies will be sent to the sender of the message
  • Subscription
    • Open
      • Allows anybody to subscribe to the list
    • By-Owner
      • The owner of the list will have to accept subscribers
  • Send
    • Public
      • Anybody can send to the list
    • Private
      • Only owners and subscribers may send to the list
    • Moderated Editor Hold
      • Moderators - people who approve messages before they are sent
      • Editors - people who can send to a moderated list without moderation, messages are sent right away
    • Moderated Editor Hold Confirm
      • Same as Moderated Editor Hold except the sender of a message will need to confirm they sent the message by clicking on a link in an email they will receive after sending the message
      • Reduces the amount of spam sent to the list
  • Owner
    • Per NDUS Policy, there must be at least one University System email address listed as an owner for the list
    • If the list is for a Student Organization, the advisor for the Organization must be listed as an owner
    • Primary Owner
      • Responsible for managing the list and receives any error messages pertaining to the list
      • Only one primary owner per list
    • Secondary Owner - Optional
      • Has the same access as the Primary Owner but will not receive error messages
