Office 365 for Students - Frequently Asked Questions
How do I access my email and calendar?
To access your Office 365 account for email and calendaring:
- Go to www.outlook.com/my.ndsu.edu
- Log in with your NDSU email address (typically email@example.com) and password
If your attempt to log in fails and you receive an error message:
- Click the link to sign out of your account
- Type www.outlook.com/my.ndsu.edu into your Web browser address bar and hit enter (Note: You might need to clear your Web browser history first to get to the Office 365 login page.)
- When the Office 365 login page appears, enter your email address and password to log in
If you forget your password, call 231-8685 (option 1) or visit the NDSU IT Help Desk.
What should I do if I forget my password?
If you forget your NDSU email account password, call 231-8685 or visit the IT Help Desk, and they will help you reset it.
Requests to "Reset your password" submitted in Office 365 cannot be processed. All Office 365 password changes and resets must be submitted via phone or in person at the NDSU IT Help Desk.
If you need to reset your password to access your files in SkyDrive, go to: https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx.
Keep in mind, changing your Office 365 password will not change your SkyDrive password, or vice versa. Password changes and resets must be done separately for each account.
How do I access my SkyDrive?
If you used SkyDrive to store and share documents and other files, you will be able to retain access to those files after the upgrade by logging in to your new personal Microsoft account at www.skydrive.com.
You can log in using your NDSU email address (typically firstname.lastname@example.org) and password. If you forget your password, call 231-8685 (option 1) or visit the NDSU IT Help Desk.
Why do I have two accounts?
The previous email system, NDSU Live, provided access to email, calendaring, and SkyDrive for file storage and sharing. Because Microsoft's Office 365 system does not currently include SkyDrive, your Live account became two separate accounts after the upgrade to Office 365:
- Office 365 for email and calendaring
- Personal Microsoft account that retains access to files stored in SkyDrive
Will my account include access to Lync and SharePoint?
Student accounts in Office 365 include email and calendaring only. Access to files stored in SkyDrive can be retained after the migration using your personal Microsoft account at www.skydrive.com.
Student accounts will not include access to Microsoft Lync or SharePoint until those accounts are merged into the NDSU employee instance of Office 365. The N.D. University System anticipates merging student and employee accounts into the same instance of Office 365 during the upcoming academic year.
I already have an Office 365 account. Will this upgrade affect my current Office 365 account?
No. NDSU student accounts will be in a separate instance of Office 365. If you have another Office 365 account, it will not be affected by this upgrade. The N.D. University System anticipates merging all employee and student accounts across the University System into one instance of Office 365 during the upcoming academic year.
