Connect to Wireless

To connect a device to the secure wireless network, NDSU faculty, staff and students must first complete a one-time setup by installing a digital security certificate on the device:

  1. Connect to the NDSU Instructions wireless network
    Note: This network can be used only to set up your device to connect to secure wireless
  2. Open a Web browser, and go to https://wireless.ndsu.edu
  3. Follow the directions to download and install the certificate, and enter your NDSU electronic ID and password when prompted
  4. When finished, connect to the Eduroam network
  5. To ensure your computer no longer connects to NDSU Instructions, remove NDSU Instructions from your preferred networks

Wireless Setup Instructions for Specific Operating Systems

Note about instructions

The instructions below for the specific Operating Systems (OS) may differ from device to device due to differences in OS versions and manufacturers.

Mobile Devices

iOS Devices (iPhone/iPad):

  • Open the device Settings
  • Select Wi-Fi
  • Connect to NDSU Instructions and close out of settings
  • Open the Safari Web Browser
  • Go to wireless.ndsu.edu if you are not redirected
  • Check the box to Agree to Terms & Conditions after reading and click Start
  • Select NDSU
  • Log in with your NDSU electronic ID and password
  • Click Install in the Install Profile window
    • Enter your passcode if you have one set on the device
  • Click Install at the bottom of the screen
  • Click Done
  • Follow the instructions to connect to the eduroam network
  • Click the "i" button next to the NDSU Instructions network
  • Click Forget this Network
  • Click Forget


Android Devices:

  • Turn Wi-Fi on and connect t NDSU Instructions
  • Open a web browser
  • Go to wireless.ndsu.edu if you are not redirected
  • Check the box to Agree to Terms & Conditions after reading and click Start
  • Select NDSU
  • Log in with your NDSU electronic ID and password
  • Click Install App which opens the Play Store
  • Click Install
  • Once it finishes installing, click the Back button on the device (Note: do not click the Open button after the app installs)
  • Click Configure Device
  • Click Continue
  • If you do not have a screen lock code, you will be prompted to set on, if you have one, enter it
  • Once it configures you should receive a Congratulations message and it should auto connect to the eduroam network
  • Click Done
  • Choose to report if the device was successful

Windows Phone:

  • Not supported - Please bring your device to the IT Help Desk in the Quentin Burdick Building room 150A or Barry Hall 270 for assistance with connecting to the eduroam wireless network

Other Devices

Windows 8:

  • Connect to the NDSU Instructions network
  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Go to wireless.ndsu.edu if you are not redirected
  • Check the box to Agree to Terms & Conditions after reading and click Start
  • Click NDSU
  • Log in with your NDSU electronic ID
  • If Xpress Connect does not display, click the Manual Download page link at the very bottom of the page
  • Follow the instructions and click the link to manually download and install the certificate file
  • When finished, connect to the eduroam network

Windows 7:

  • Connect to the NDSU Instructions network
  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Go to wireless.ndsu.edu if you are not redirected
  • Check the box to Agree to Terms & Conditions after reading and click Start
  • Select NDSU
  • Log in with your NDSU electronic ID and password
  • Under the Microsoft Windows heading, click the .exe link next to Download this file
  • Click Run
  • Click Run
  • XpressConnect should then open and configure the eduroam network
  • When it is complete you will receive a Successfully Connected message
  • Click Done

Mac OSX:

  • Connect to the NDSU Instructions network
  • Open Safari
  • Go to wireless.ndsu.edu if you are not redirected
  • Check the box to Agree to Terms & Conditions after reading and click Start
  • Select NDSU
  • Log in with your NDSU electronic ID and password
  • Click the Network Profile link
  • Click Continue
  • Click Install
  • Enter your login profile keychain password
  • After the certificate installs, open the Airport icon and connect to eduroam
  • Open the Airport icon and select Network Preferences
  • Click the Advanced button
  • Select NDSU Instructions
  • Click the "-" symbol to remove the NDSU Instructions network
  • Apply and close Network Preferences

Guest Wireless Access

NDSU employees can provide on-campus guests with wireless access by generating a temporary guest login. The login grants access to the NDSU Limited network.

To create a guest login:

  • Go to https://apps.ndsu.edu/ndsulimited
  • Click Login in the upper right corner
  • Enter your NDSU electronic ID and password to obtain a guest password
  • Follow the instructions to generate a guest password for today or for future use or multiday use
  • Provide the password and connection instructions to your guest(s)

To use the guest login:

  • Connect to the NDSU Limited wireless network
  • Open a Web browser and go to any Web page
  • Enter your full name and the password, and then click Submit

Guests can also work with an NDSU employee to request a digital security certificate from the IT Help Desk to connect to the NDSU Secure network.

Eduroam

Audience

Education Roaming is a global internet access service that provides you with secure wireless Internet access at NDSU and at other educational institutions that are part of the Eduroam network. 

Eduroam provides the same secure connectivity as the NDSU Secure network with the added benefit of immediate wireless access at other participating institutions.

NDSU Limited

NDSU Limited provides guest access to the Internet. This network uses a less secure connection and is limited in terms of allowed Internet access.

Like Eduroam, NDSU Secure is secured using a certificate that you install on your device. This network is fully functional and provides full access to the Internet.

Wireless Locations

Wireless Internet access is available at most public locations on campus and in student rooms, lounges and study areas in the residence halls.

Wireless is also available at two outdoor "green spaces" on campus:

  • The Babbling Brook - North of the South Engineering building
  • Dakota Plaza - Next to the Geosciences building, just west of the Family Life Center
