Theresa Semmens, chief IT security officer, will present at two national conferences this spring on topics related to IT security practices in higher education.
Semmens will present at the Treasury Institute for Higher Education’s Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards workshop on the topic of mobile devices and PCI compliance on April 24. During this interactive session, Semmens will facilitate a discussion of the security implications of using smart phones, tablets and other wireless mobile devices for processing financial transactions on campus.
“I’m looking forward to interacting with IT security professionals and those who come from other areas in higher education, including finance and business offices, “Semmens said. “These attendees will have diverse perspectives and varying question sets that will make this interactive presentation much more rewarding for all.”
Semmens has previously presented on the topic of PCI compliance at a number of workshops and conferences across North Dakota, including the 2011 N.D. University System CIO retreat.
The 2012 Treasury Institute’s PCI DSS Workshop will be held April 23–25 in Indianapolis, IN. More information about this workshop is available at: www.treasuryinstitute.org
Semmens will also present at the 2012 Security Professionals Conference on May 16 on the topic of “Ensuring Electronic Data Records Integrity through a Simple Audit Process." Semmens will provide attendees with a simple and effective security audit plan they can implement at their home institutions to identify potential security issues and implement recommendations for departments as needed.
This year will be Semmens’s fourth year presenting at the IT Security Professionals Conference. Semmens served as chair of the conference in 2011. At this year’s 10th annual conference, she and other past chairs will be recognized for their contributions to this long-standing conference.
The 2012 Security Professionals Conference is sponsored by Educause, and by the Internet2 Higher Education Information Security Council and the Research & Education Networking Information Sharing & Analysis Center. The conference will be held May 15–17 in Indianapolis, IN. More information about the conference, including links to archived presentations, is available at: www.educause.edu/SEC12
