To prepare for the statewide upgrade to Microsoft Office 365, all users of NDSU Outlook email – including faculty, staff, and some teaching assistants and student employees – must change their password. Users who have not changed their password since July 1 should do so before Monday, Sept. 17. Instructions for changing your password are available at www.ndsu.edu/its/outlook-password.
Your best option for continued, uninterrupted access to your account is to change your own password in advance of the deadline. If you do not change your password before the deadline, the NDSU IT Help Desk will automatically reset your password to a default password to ensure that your account is moved to the new system.
After changing your password, you have the option to log in to the Office 365 Web portal at https://portal.microsoftonline.com to take a tour of the new system. You will not be able to access your email or calendar from the portal until after your account is moved during the weekend of the upgrade.
The statewide move to Office 365 will take place the weekend of September 22–23. Beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday until 6 a.m. on Monday, there is a possibility for brief email and calendar service interruptions as individual accounts are moved over to the new system.
After the upgrade, individuals who access email and calendar through software on their computer may receive an error message when logging in for the first time and will be required to reenter their email address and password to successfully log in. Users who are unable or choose not to access their account through software on their computer also have the option to access email and calendaring using a Web browser after the upgrade at https://portal.microsoftonline.com.
